This policy explains what information The Great Lock In collects when you use the app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. The Great Lock In is a habit and challenge tracker — the data below reflects what the app actually stores to run its features, nothing more.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the name and email those providers share with us. We never see or store your password ourselves — authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication.
Habit, task, and challenge data. The habits you create, completions you log, tasks you add, and challenges you join are stored so the app can track your progress and calculate your score and streaks.
Competition profile data. If you join a cohort challenge, a limited profile (display name, score, and active challenges) is visible to other members of your cohort, based on the visibility settings you control in the app.
Push notification tokens. If you enable notifications, we store a device token so we can send you reminders (for example, a nudge to complete your daily review).
Usage analytics. We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used in aggregate (e.g. which screens are visited). This data is not tied to your name or email in any report we look at.
How we use your information
We use the information above only to:
- Operate core features — tracking habits, tasks, challenges, streaks, and your daily score
- Run cohort challenges and show you how you're doing relative to your cohort
- Send optional reminder notifications you've enabled
- Maintain and improve the app (bug fixing, performance, aggregate usage trends)
- Secure your account and prevent abuse
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share it with
We don't share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Data is processed by the infrastructure providers that run the app on our behalf — currently Google Firebase/Cloud (authentication, database, functions, notifications, analytics) and Vercel (web hosting). These providers process data under their own security and privacy commitments, solely to provide those services to us.
Within a cohort challenge, other participants can see the limited profile fields covered above — this is a core, visible part of how the competition works, not a third-party disclosure.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit or delete individual habits, tasks, and challenges at any time in the app
- You can turn off push notifications from your device settings
- You can control what your cohort sees via the visibility settings on your profile
- You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us below
If you request account deletion, we remove your account and associated personal data, other than what we need to retain briefly for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active, so the app can keep showing your history, streaks, and score. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
Children's privacy
The Great Lock Inis not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
